Art that speaks to the soul
It was a moment of joy and deep sadness at the same time. I wanted to tell a blind friend that I would soon have my first exhibition. But before I could even say the words, I was struck by a painful realisation: he would never be able to see my paintings.
Suddenly, my art felt incomplete. What is the purpose of creating beauty if not everyone can experience it? I didn’t want him to just imagine my work - I wanted him to feel it, in the truest sense of the word. So I began incorporating textures into my paintings, weaving in materials from nature: sand, stones, rough and smooth surfaces, elements that tell stories you can read with your fingertips.
I achieved this especially in my works Fragile Heart and Transformation. When Fragile Heart was finished, I asked my friend to experience it through touch. His hands moved gently across the textures of each painting, exploring the peaks and valleys of my emotions. From time to time, he asked about the colors, and I described them to him, telling him about the delicate lines, the contrasts, and the movement within the painting.
Then came the moment that deeply moved me. He paused and softly said:
“I can feel four broken hearts, coming together as one.”
I was close to tears. Because in that moment, I understood that art is more than what the eyes can perceive. It is not just seen, it is felt, it is understood, it touches something deep within.
And so, I continue to paint, weaving structure into my artwork—not just for the eyes, but for the soul.
